CHIPP Analysis and computing Workshop in Manno Summary and Conclusions: (C.Grab) ========================== 1) Resource and funding issues: 1A) Agreement on the ramp-up scaling: To reach the 100% of the final tier-2 size in 2008, we agreed on requesting funding for 10% in 2006 and 30% in 2007. 1B) The request for funding shall be submitted in Sep. 2005, asking for hardware to be put at CSCS in 2006. A funding request submitted in September yields the result in spring; thus the money (after a potential paralllel process of tendering) can be spent not before summer following year. 1C) The detailed specifications of the Swiss Tier-2 are collected in the "Resource requirements for the Swiss Tier-2 regional centre" document. 1D) Each experiment is advised to provide ONE full-time software-aware person as a link between the experiment and the home institutes. 1E) The setting up of Tier-3s at the university level will also require a substantial amount of funding for hardware; the institutes will have to worry about this. The Tier-3 centres will each need also manpower (typically one FTE) for operation of the facilities. A separate request for manpower shall be done by the institutes in 2006. 2) The outcome of the meeting will be summarised and reported upon at the Sep. CHIPP meeting at PSI. 3) We agreed on holding such a meeting regularly. The beginning frequency of once a year was considered a meaningful start. the next meeting will take place at least about 2-3 months after the availability of the next chunk of machines. 4) A mailing list for imminent information dissipation, and a wiki for long-term documentation will be setup. 26.8.2005: C.Grab (comments to grab@phys.ethz.ch) _____________________________________________________________
