Description
IceCube is under construction at the south pole station in Antarctica.  Building on the experience with AMANDA, IceCube is aimed primarily at the detection of extraterrestrial neutrinos of energies beyond the steeply falling spectrum of the atmospheric neutrinos, searching for point sources.  A diffuse flux implied by the spectrum of UHE cosmic rays should be revealed.  I will describe the physics goals and the unique challenges of experimental design, construction, and operation in this harsh environment.
