Description
This event is to support those intending to give training courses during EGEE-II. Participants might be members of the NA3 activity, or other EGEE activities, or might be members of partner projects or application comunities associated with EGEE. Registration is required for the day: The URL is: http://www.nesc.ac.uk/action/registration/egee/index.cfm?id=708 Logistics: The course will be held in building 593 (Training Centre) at CERN. There are two hostels on the CERN site – buildings 38 and 39. There is a searchable site map at http://building.web.cern.ch/building/. The hostel booking page is http://housing-service.web.cern.ch/housing-service/hostelwelc.html . To gain entry to the CERN site you will need to show your passport and collect a pass from reception – these will be arranged for registered course participants. In order to use a laptop to connect to the network, you will need to pre-register it at CERN. For instructions on how to do this look at the page: http://it-div.web.cern.ch/it-div/gencomputing/VisitorPortables.asp . You will need to know the MAC address of your computer to do this – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address for instructions on how to find this. NOTE THAT IT IS NECESSARY TO REGISTER YOUR LAPTOP IN ADVANCE. That will permit you to explore the EGEE digital library and other NA3-related websites during the day.

A talk followed by discussion, seeking to explore how to structure courses effectively. For example: 1. whilst many of the courses given by NA3 are generic, there are cases where courses should be tailored for specific user communities or partner projects. 2. practicals are a vital part of courses. We will explore how practicals can be structured.

This will describe the support provided by NA3 to those giving training. It will include event advertising, registration, goal setting, feedback... NA3 has procedures for these and following them will both simplify the running of an event and also ensure that trainers' efforts are recorded in the annals of EGEE-II.

t-Infrastructure is vital for training - as e-infrastructure supports production uses, so t-infrastructure supports training. It comprises a grid that can be booked and used for training, with reasonable expectation of fast turnaround of jobs to facilitate learning in the timescale of the tutorial session. It needs to be able to deploy middleware in anticipation of production use. It needs a lightweight CA so participants do not need a certificate before courses begin. The GILDA grid is widely used in EGEE courses. It is described with an emphasis on the procedures for its use by trainers. An overview of the information available on the GILDA site is also given.
