CERN is mentioned in the New York Times' list of 52 Places to Go in 2024. It's a great time to visit: the new Renzo Piano-designed Science Gateway opened in October and 2024 is CERN's 70th anniversary year.
For the bridging weekend between the EOS Workshop and CTA Workshop, you might want to consider the other NYT recommendation for Geneva: the Choco Pass. It's a self-guided chocolate tour, for those who would like to sample Geneva’s famous truffles, bonbons and pralines.
Sunday 17 March: Workshop Social Event
Trip to the Olympic Museum (Lausanne) and Fort des Rousses (Jura Mountains)
In this Olympic year we invite workshop participants to join us for a trip to the Olympic Museum (Lausanne, Switzerland), followed by a journey into the nearby Jura Mountains to visit Fort des Rousses including a guided tour of the famous cheese-making facility and the opportunity to taste and purchase the locally-produced Juraflore Comté cheese.
Timetable — Sunday 17 March
09:45 - Meet at Science Gateway Car Park (see map below)
10.00 - Departure from CERN by bus
11:00 - Guided tour of Olympic Museum Lausanne
13:30 - Lunch in l'Arbézie, a mountain restaurant which straddles the Swiss-French border and has an interesting history
15:30 - Guided tour of Fort des Rousses including cheese-making facility
18:00 - Arrival back at CERN
Cost
The cost is expected to be CHF 65 per person (assuming minimum 25 participants). This includes bus transport for the day, entry fees and both guided tours.
The cost of lunch is not included and is at the participant's own expense. The three-course set menu will cost EUR 30, not including drinks. Pay on the day.
Monday 18 March: Workshop Dinner
There will be a workshop dinner at 19.00 on Monday 18 March 2024 at the Luigia Academy restaurant, close to CERN.
The cost is CHF 59 per person for a set menu of three courses. Drinks are not included in the fixed price.
The restaurant can easily be reached on foot from CERN entrance D. It is 850 m (0.5 miles) from the main building at CERN.
