Korea Institute for Science and Technology Information, Daejeon

Nestled amidst the vibrant Daedeok Science Town in Daejeon, South Korea, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) stands as a beacon of scientific innovation and technological prowess. Founded in 1962 as a government-funded research institution, KISTI has played a pivotal role in spearheading groundbreaking computational science projects for the Korean scientific community and government agencies.
KISTI's cutting-edge computing infrastructure and expertise have made it a global leader in high-throughput and high-performance computing. Since 2014, KISTI has proudly hosted ALICE T1, a world-class computing center that serves as a vital hub for the ALICE Collaboration in Asia.
Beyond its prowess in HTC and HPC, KISTI's impact extends far and wide. As the design and operations center of KREONET, the national science and technology research network, KISTI plays a crucial role in connecting researchers across Korea and facilitating seamless collaboration.
KISTI's legacy extends beyond its scientific achievements. The institute has been instrumental in promoting science literacy and fostering a culture of innovation among the Korean public. Through its educational programs, outreach initiatives, and public engagement efforts, KISTI has ignited a passion for science and technology among generations of Koreans.

Korean Society for High Energy Physics (KSHEP)

KSHEP is a dynamic and forward-thinking organization at the forefront of high-energy phyiscs research in Korea. Established on November 2011, KSHEP builds upon a rich legacy of 17 years as the High Energy Physics Council, setting its sights on new horizons and greater achievement.
KSHEP aims to serve as the nucleus for academic activities in the fields of particle physics, astrophysics, and nuclear physics. With a vision to become a pivotal force in shaping the future landscape of basic science in Korea, KSHEP is dedicated to contributing significantly to the establishment of the National Institute of High Energy Physics. In their pursuit of excellence, they are breaking down barriers between different research domains. They seeks to present a unified voice internationally, fostering collaboration and mutual respect among researchers in nuclear, particle, and astrophysical sciences. As they eneter a new chapter in 2022 with the formal establishment of the Korean Socienty for High Energy Physics, they extend a warm invitation to existing members of the High Energy Physics Council and welcome new, aspiring researchers. KSHEP is committed to brining together scientists in all high-energy physics fields above MeV, creating a diverse and inclusive community of scholars.
KSHEP is not merely an operational entity but a visionary force. They are dedicated to collaboratively shaping the significant milestones for the next decade, setting realistic annual goals, and serving as a practical gateway for external activities. Workshop goals:
As the ALICE experiment approaches its third year of operation following its upgrade, it has already amassed an extraordinary trove of p-p and HI data, opening up unprecedented opportunities for data analysis with statistical power far exceeding that of RUN1+2 combined. To effectively store and process this immense volume of data, the ALICE Grid and computing centers have undergone significant capacity expansions and are now powered by the jAliEn middleware and a suite of enhanced local services.
The adoption of the new multicore/multithreaded ALICE processing software has fundamentally transformed the operations of the computing centers, the jAliEn middleware, and the methods employed for job optimization. It has also had a profound impact on data storage interactions and the critical role played by both local and wide-area networks.
To address these evolving operational challenges and continue enabling the scientific research, the workshop will focus on the status and future plans for the ALICE Grid, middleware, storage, and networking infrastructure. The workshop will provide a platform for site administrators and software developers to engage in discussions on topics of mutual interest, ensuring the seamless integration and optimization of these critical components.
The workshop will delve into discussions on:
  1. Operations: Assessing the current operations of the ALICE Grid, middleware, storage, and networking infrastructure, identifying potential bottlenecks, and exploring strategies for enhancing efficiency and reliability.
  2. Middleware: Evaluating the capabilities and performance of the jAliEn middleware, exploring potential enhancements to improve job scheduling, resource allocation, and data transfer efficiency.
  3. Storage: Assessing the current storage capacity and performance, identifying areas for expansion and optimization, and exploring new storage technologies that align with ALICE's data storage needs.
  4. Networking: Evaluating the current networking infrastructure, assessing the impact of the increased data volume on network performance, and exploring strategies for enhancing network throughput and resilience.
Through these discussions, the workshop will foster collaboration, identify critical areas for improvement, and assure resilient ALICE computing environment that can support the experiment's ambitious data-driven research agenda for the next years.
The workshop will take place at the conference centre of Hotel President.
In addition to the conference, the local organizers have secured a limited number of rooms in the same hotel at a very competitive prices. More details on that in the Accomodation section.
Registration deadline:  15 March 2024
Workshop fee:  140 EUR (~ 200,000KRW), please refer to the Payment of workshop fee section.
